THE GRAND SHEIK

The Sons’ Constitution humorously declares that club officers “shall have no authority whatever” — but they are necessary for a successful tent:

Grand Sheik (chairman)                                              Duties include arranging for
            — in charge of the tent’s operation                films, equipment, meeting
                                                                                    place, publicity, etc. —

Vice-Sheik (vice chairman)                                         whatever it takes to
            — assists in the tent’s operation                     “put on the show”

Grand Vizier (secretary) — handles the club mailings, takes notes of any decisions made by the club

Sub-Vice-Vizier (treasurer) - keeper of the cash - like Judas.

(The same person may assume the duties of more than one position.)

Officers may be elected or appointed. Some tents hold annual elections; some rotate the "slate" periodically by promoting the officers (the Vizier becomes the Vice-Sheik; the Vice-Sheik succeeds the Grand Sheik); other tents are content to let things run as they have been, so it isn’t unusual to find Grand Sheiks who’ve been doing the job for many years.
